Zhong Xiuwei, Deputy Director of the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Maoming City, introduced that Maoming is the world's largest tilapia breeding and processing base. The freshwater aquaculture area of tilapia in Maoming City reaches 260000 mu, and the seawater mixed aquaculture area is 30000 mu. There are over 15000 tilapia farmers, with an annual output of 252800 tons, accounting for about 1/9 of the national tilapia production. Maoming has become the largest tilapia aquaculture advantage area and export processing base in China, and is undoubtedly the "Capital of Chinese tilapia".
